Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters – Show Graphics Package

The Most Dangerous Game.

CLIENT:
ITV Studios
ITV Studios once again relied on Houses to help build a graphics package for their show Rocky Mountain Bounty Hunters on Animal Planet. The program structure tells two coinciding stories of bounty hunters looking for “their man.” One set of bounty hunters are located in Colorado and the others are in Montana. The show cuts back and forth between the two stories and Rocky Mountain locations.

While the show is about fugitive recovery it is also about the vast landscapes of the West and the expansive beauty of North America’s largest mountain range. Animal Planet and ITV wanted to focus on the wilderness aspect so we made sure to include some epic shots in the editorial.

Facebook – Year in Review

We’re All on the Same Page.

CLIENT:
Facebook Stories
via Rain NY
Grumpy Cat, baby photos, and The Harlem Shake infiltrated all of our Facebook feeds in 2013. Rain NY came to us in late November to help tell the story of how we stayed connected through Facebook in addition to recounting the hottest topics of the year. Running with Rain’s outline, we developed the story, designed, and animated everything in only 8 days. It was a bit of a whirlwind, working around the Thanksgiving holiday and updating for developing news stories, but it all came together in the end.
his video became a centerpiece for Facebook’s Year in Review seen on FacebookStories.com. As of December 31st, it has received more that 174,000 shares on Facebook and substantially more plays.

We really enjoyed working with the teams at Rain and Facebook on this one. Here’s to 2014! While you’re thinking about it… don’t forget to Like us on Facebook!

Food Network – Autumnal Promos

The Gravy Bowl Meets The Super Bowl.

CLIENT:
Food Network
Our friends at Food Network came to us last fall to help them promote two of their biggest events of the year: Thanksgiving & Food Network’s 20th Birthday!

Thanksgiving, we were informed, is Food Network’s equivalent to the Super Bowl. With that in mind, we designed an over the top, sports package inspired, autumnal promo package. Flying gourds, exploding leaves, and other flamboyant autumn elements populate this world of eternal sunsets.  The rich textures were developed to soften the overall look.

For Food Network’s 20th Birthday, which was to be celebrated around the same time as Thanksgiving, we created a complimentary package to that of the Autumnal theme.

Exchange the gourds and leaves for cakes and confetti and there you are… an instant party!

USOC & Pilobolus – 100 Days to Sochi – Times Square Event

A Team USA Takeover for Times Square.

CLIENT:
USOC
via Pilobolus
This project was an excellent opportunity to expand upon our electronic billboard video portfolio. Long time colleague, Peter Sluszka, invited us to collaborate with him and the modern dance company, Pilobolus, to create a 5 minute film for the US Olympic Committee. This film would be shown on multiple electronic billboards simultaneously in Times Square at the “100 Days to Sochi” event.
The USOC sponsored event was a kick-off to a traveling road show across USA, getting people excited for the upcoming 2014 winter olympics. Considering the extremely creative nature of Pilobolus and the wide open initial concept, we were thrilled to help bring the project to life.
Working with the talented and flexible (literally) Pilobolus team was an inspiring experience. From the artistic directors to the dancers, they put on quite a show. We helped supervise a two day shoot at their stage in Connecticut in which we saw them form and become objects that were the foundation of the film.
Along with the footage from that shoot, we were supplied with US Olympic athletes green screen footage and archival broadcast footage.
From there we created a story and design structure to make all three footage sources work together as one whole cohesive piece. Here are some early design frames sketches that helped kick start the production.

Sephora – Holiday Packaging

A Place for Everything and Everything in its Place.

CLIENT:
Sephora
We were super excited when Sephora came to us to create a stop-motion animation featuring their first ever line of holiday packaging. The playfully designed boxes, bags, and bubble packs served as great inspiration for the treatment we created. We transformed our conference room into a stage, while various other parts of our studio became the fabrication shop for the week of shooting.
Once the studio was cleaned up we were able to get right to editing, clean-up and compositing for the final video. The cute transitions we animated sent this one right over the top. This was such a fun project to work on and get us in the holiday spirit (in August!).

The Shed – Show Graphics Package

A Smoked Show Package for the Sweetest Family in the South.

CLIENT:
Food Network

Food Network approached us to quickly put together a Show Open for their new program, The Shed. The program follows a family who opened a BBQ stand in Cold Springs, Mississippi that has grown into a local staple with Blues music, good people, and great food.

Providing us with footage from a promo shoot, we edited together some of our favorite moments to tell the story of the BBQ joint and the family that runs it. Title cards, film grime, light leaks, texture overlays, jumpy editorial, composite shots, logo treatment, and color grading all combined bring this Show Open to life. The highly stylized editorial piece depicts the deep south along the Bayou and the “hot sauce” that keeps The Shed moving!

We love great food here at Houses, whether we’re making it, eating it, or just looking at it. So when Food Network came to us to design some new promos we were thrilled. Food Network recently went through an update to their on-air identity. It’s a great package, but they were looking to us to add something new to the mix.

Above is a collection of some of the specialized Promo Packages we’ve developed in 2013. In addition to promos and show packages, we’ve also done a few standalone TVCs for Food Network properties. Have a look at one of those below!

Killer Speaks – Show Graphics Package

Darkness Lies at the End of this Hallway.

CLIENT:
ITV Studios

Houses was approached by ITV Studios to conceptualize and create a graphics package for A&E’s new series The Killer Speaks. The premise of the show is dark and at times disturbing but it isn’t everyday that we get a chance to create content for this type of programming. When we presented our initial ideas to the executives at ITV they got onboard with our “Hallway” concept.

We created the Show Open using a mix of our own photography & video plus a few stock elements. We journey through the mind of the killer as we approach the interview room. Through the door the killer is revealed, backlit to keep anonymity and heighten the creep factor. We filmed our killer in a quick half-day shoot. He honestly couldn’t have been a nicer person and wouldn’t harm a fly.

MAC Cosmetics

We Think You’re Beautiful Just the Way You Are.

CLIENT:
MAC Cosmetics

We worked with MAC Cosmetics regularly for well over 3 years. In that time we created a variety of design and animation for everything from in-store LED displays & projections for live events to viral videos for web and even NYC’s Taxi TV! It is always something and someplace new.

The majority of our efforts go towards creating content for their growing number of retail stores. What started out as 2 stores in NYC has now expanded to numerous spaces all over the world. Some of the more exotic locations include The Champs Elyseés in Paris and Bangkok Airport in Thailand. Not to mention that NYC now has 5 stores of its own, including Times Square & 5th Avenue… they’ve really been keeping us on our toes. Every location has a unique layout where screen size and installation varies. Though content may be the same for each location, we ensure that all screens get a proper fit for their specifications. Above you’ll can see a brief selection of just some of the work Houses has created for these locations.

In addition to in-store, we’ve had the privilege to create content for many of their live events. The most exciting for us was the presentation featuring flamboyant figure skater, Johnny Weir. We we’re brought on to create a dreamy environment for Johnny to skate in front of. The idea was that he is tiny skater inside a snow globe who comes to life and breaks free of his glass prison. We created a wintery environment, snow globe, and the resulting explosions and snow storm for the performance. This was unique for our work with MAC as we are often constrained to a particular product’s artwork or model photography.

However, we don’t let restrictions temper our creativity. In ‘Heavenly Creatures’ we used actual product photography to create the planets. Those patterns are actually what the eye shadows look like in the compact. This inspired us to create the harmonic convergence of planets you see in the video. We always aim to create some sort of narrative from the products and photography we’re given to work with.

HEAVENLY CREATURES

Perhaps our favorite collaboration with MAC was when they teamed up with DC Comics to bring Wonder Woman into the MAC universe. Working from only 5 illustrations, penned by Michael Allred, we were able to tell an energetic and engaging story. We wanted to take the retro comic feel and bring it into a contemporary realm; incorporating 3D comic elements that burst of the page, separating the illustrations in order to create a world with depth, dynamic camera moves, and other visual trickery to keep the action going.

The icing on the cake is the cinematic original score by Beta Petrol. This was a lot of fun to work on, from concept to delivery. MAC has been a fun and challenging partner to work with and we look forward to creating even more unique and entertaining pieces with them in the future.
