Nick Jr. – Warm & Fuzzy Holidays

A Warm & Fuzzy Broadcast Package for Kids of All Ages.

CLIENT:
Nick Jr.

Nick Jr. came to us in October of 2015 looking for a production partner for their  holiday packaging, bumpers and IDs. This included producing a wide ranging stop motion shoot, as well as a complete graphics package to accompany it. They had a bit of the plan in place, but needed someone who could bring all of their ideas together in time for the quickly approaching holiday season. This was a challenge we eagerly jumped at!

The goal was to reimagine popular Nick Jr. characters and introduce a crew of adorable animals as stylized felted creatures that would bring a “Warm & Fuzzy” feeling to life. Over 20 different vignettes were proposed across 3 unique locations. We took the reigns of the project and jumped right in, evaluating the creative and setting up our animation, and postproduction teams – while putting in place the kind of efficient workflow that a package of this magnitude demands.

SELECTED SPOTS

It was truly a great experience working with everyone involved in this project, from the team at Nick Jr. to our amazing shooting and post production crews. We all came together like a well-oiled machine to produce a monumental amount of quality work. We had about 8 days of pre-production, 5 days of shooting, and 3 weeks of post production. In total, we delivered 37 stop motion vignettes and 73 animated graphic elements, on time and on budget. This couldn’t have been achieved this without the fantastic pipeline we established and the talent of everyone involved.

JetLife – Show Graphics Package

Where the Fans Are the MVP.

CLIENT:
New York Jets

The New York Jets contacted Houses to create a graphics show package for their brand new program, JetLife, which premiered during the 2015 NFL season. The show aired Saturday nights at 11:35pm on CBS and had a 16 episode run. The half-hour program is everything you want to know about the NYJ organization outside of the game… the offseason, charity events, behind the scenes, and much more. Our initial proposal included 3 directions that were all well received. In the end they went with the one that highlighted the fans and their diversity.

For the Show Open, Houses produced a live-action shoot which included casting and location scouting. Filming in the back streets of Jersey City, Hoboken, Manhattan, Queens, and Brooklyn to catch the vibe of the “everyday loyal fan.” We also designed the logo for the show as well as secondary elements such as bumpers, backgrounds, lower thirds, and transitions. The package came together very nicely, we had a ton of fun working with the New York Jets franchise and everybody there was pumped up about how the package turned out. J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!!!

Puma – Revolutions

An Energetic Romp Through the Decades.

CLIENT:
Puma
via Rain NY

Puma – Revolutions was an excellent project for our team at Houses. The digital agency, Rain, came to us to help realize this brand lifestyle piece commemorating the 45th anniversary of the iconic Puma Suede sneaker. Rain wanted to showcase the history of the Suede with a punchy :45 that spans the decades from the 1968 Olympics through today.

The original brief was for a series of period reenactments showcasing notable events from each era. They would be tied together through a series of match cuts with the sneaker typically in the center of frame. Working closely with the director at Rain, and a calculator for the budget, we came to the conclusion that shooting on location wasn’t really an option. We offered the idea of a studio shoot for all scenes and transforming this video into history lesson in design as well.

MOODBOARDS

We devised a way to integrate period inspired design and animation from each era into their respective scenes.  Saul Bass influenced the 1960s, psychedelia for the 70s,  eye burning neon and low-fi video games for the 80s, and so on. Happily everyone responded well to this direction and believed that it dramatically elevated the entire spot.

With the shots planned out, we began our mood boards and style frames for each of the eras. At the same time we were busy creating pre-vis for many of the shots, ensuring we had the proper equipment and techniques at the ready on the shoot days. Going into the shoot we had a strong understanding of where the graphics would live and how they would play out.

After two days of shooting, one on a green screen stage with talent and the other capturing  shoe elements with motion control rigs and other nifty robots, we brought everything back for editing and post work.

As our editor pulled selects of every shot, the designers and animators began building the environments and remaining design elements to populate the scenes. Over the next 2 weeks we built out everything and even created a few new sections along the way.

During the final week, we fine tuned all of the elements and created period appropriate color grades and artifacting to drive home the period scenes. The final piece came together in the energetic romp through the decades you see here! Throw on your Suedes and appreciate the history you’re stepping through.

The Big Tip – Show Open

We Always Tip 20%.

CLIENT:
Food Network

Our pals at Food Network came to us for a quickie Show Package for their new show The Big Tip with Rachel Ray. Food Network’s design director wanted something with a papercraft feel. Oh, and it also had to include the classic diner Guest Check that we’re all familiar with. After looking for a bit of fresh inspiration, we came across the work of Yulia Brodskaya.

Her intricate paper craft designs really spoke to us. Using her perspective as a starting point we ran with the design you see in motion. Designed in Illustrator and brought to life in Cinema 4D, this show open was a ton of fun to work on!
