American Eagle Outfitters – Electronic Billboard Videos

Fly Like an Eagle… ’til I’m Free.

CLIENT:
American Eagle Outfitters

Houses has had a lot of fun working with the iconic clothing retailer, American Eagle Outfitters. Since the summer of 2012 we’ve been creating a ton of content for their enormous electronic billboards in Times Square. These boards are an icon in their own right, composed of 11 individual panels and standing over 22 stories tall. With all the panels synced, we are able to create some truly monumental displays.

Many of the projects we work on for AE are editorial in nature. We’ll take their lovely footage and craft mini-stories anywhere from 15 to 30 seconds in length. These usually feature the current season’s models, some who happen to be regular AE customers with interesting skills or hobbies. We’ll sift through massive amounts of footage looking for the moments that will translate best on the big screens and provide a nice story for the people on the street. We finish everything off with a color grade and the requisite supers. Check out the samples below.

SPRING CAST VIDEOS
FALL CAST VIDEOS

For the Fall 2012 campaign we gave each cast member their own :30 feature. Each cast member is unique, but you’ll notice how we created some consistency between the edits. Full screen takeovers add a big impact.

We’re not limited to just editorial. Houses is also creating quite a bit of custom animation for the big screens. The scale of the billboards allows the understated nature of AE’s branding to come through as powerful without taking away any of its elegance.

Be sure to see our latest works for AE the next time you find yourself in Times Square. You can’t miss it!

In total, we’ve created over 50 unique animations and videos for Times Square alone. This number will continue to climb as we strengthen our relationship with AE. We’ve also been creating in-store video content. Our Denim Fit Guides play in all flagship stores from North and Central America, through Europe and Asia, giving customers the lowdown on every fit and style available. We’re in over 17 markets world wide (and counting!).

NBC’s New Year’s Eve – Show Graphics Package

A Shiny Show Package for the Big Ball Drop.

CLIENT:
Done & Dusted
For NBC

Done & Dusted hit us up just about two weeks before New Year’s Eve to design and animate a full show package for NBC’s live broadcast. Working around the holidays we were able to deliver over 20 elements well before the air date.

The director wanted a design that reflected the lights and energy of Times Square, something that would appeal to a younger audience but not alienate an older demographic. With all that in mind, we came up with a sleek type design for the main show elements.

Combined with a mirror finish and an abstraction of the lights of Times Square, we were able hit all of those points. The 3D type reflected the lights of the festive environment allowing it to work well over a variety of live video feeds. All of the elements combined to make consistent and recognizable look for the show.

On The Fly – Show Graphics Package

ITV Studios approached us to design, edit and animate the television show package for TLC’s On the Fly. We were directed to make the Show Open edit feel frantic and a bit chaotic. By including graphic elements of planes flying every which way added to the stressful feeling one gets as they are late for a flight. Original design styleframes (below) even had a bit more of these graphic planes but were eventually dialed back for the final piece. We had fun working on this package and with the good people over at ITV Studios.

Bridezillas – Show Graphics Package

Our friends at WEtv brought us on to update the show package for WE’s wildly popular TV show, Bridezillas. With the tightest of deadlines (only 3 days!) we were able to model, animate, composite and deliver all the elements of the show package.

St. Mary Medical Center – TV Commercials

The lovely people at BeaconFey came to us to direct these two spots for St. Mary Medical Center in Bucks County, PA. Their campaign revolved around the numerous services offered by SMMC that don’t take place within the walls of the hospital itself. We designed these spots to highlight the healthy results of the services, while avoiding any stereotypical depictions of medical instruments or personnel. Limited by using only stock footage, we were able to craft 2 separate stories that feel unique and personal. Integrating our custom icon and type design throughout the spots tied everything together. BeconFey and SMMC went on to use our designs in various print and other branding campaigns.

Buy and Hedge – Online Promo Video

Authors of the book Buy and Hedge – The 5 Iron Rules for Investing Over the Long Term approached us to create an online video promoting their publication. The client asked us to create visuals cues that would represent the ideas communicated in their book. This being our major task, we spent time designing imagery that would portray subject matter in a fun and engaging way. We had a great time working with Wayne and Jay on this see-and-say video and wish them all the success with their publication.

Thalia & Dora – Nickelodeon Promo

Cause + Effect needed some extra muscle to pull of these fun music video/promos for Nickelodeon, featuring Thalia & Dora the Explorer. Houses handled all of the cleanup, compositing and VFX throughout both spots. Camera tracking, rig removal, screen replacements, and character integration in every shot made this a nice technical challenge. We finished it off by adding some extra atmospherics throughout. Brush up on your Spanish and watch both versions!

MAC – Wonder Woman

Created for MAC Cosmetics to promote their new line of Wonder Woman inspired cosmetics. Using only 5 illustrations, penned by Michael Allred, we were able to tell an energetic and engaging story. We wanted to take the retro comic feel and bring it into a contemporary realm; incorporating 3D comic elements that burst of the page, separating the illustrations in order to create a world with depth, dynamic camera moves, and other visual trickery to keep the action going. The icing on the cake is the cinematic original score by Beta Petrol. This was a lot of fun to work on, from concept to delivery. Thanks again MAC!
